Swapping Tees for Sweaters

Happy first Monday of August darlin’s! I seriously cannot get over how quickly this summer has flown by – I know, I say this each week, but it’s true. The start of the school year is fast approaching and we’re planning to send our little love to “preschool” for the very first time (say a prayer for this mama!) and I’m a little excited and a lotta nervous. With the summer coming to a close soon and the fall quickly approaching with its shorter days and crisper air I have been starting to look at my favorite summer pieces and seeing how they can be carried into early fall. All too often I am guilty of wearing summer staples like shorts, linen pants, and sleeveless dresses during the summer months only and then as soon as mid-August rolls around I switch entirely to my fall wardrobe prematurely and always find myself so hot. This year I vowed to make the most of all my summer pieces, especially since fall-winter is so prolonged here that I wear those pieces for a good long while.

Take my lived-in-all-summer-long cut off shorts for example. I have been throwing these on at least once a week (ok, who am I kidding – probably multiple times a week) with a tee or tank and running out the door all season. So what better way to carry these into my early fall wardrobe than by pairing them with a fun new sweater?! This has been one of my most favorite looks recently and I’m obsessed with pairing other sweater-and-shorts-combos now.

This particular bell-sleeved number is sadly sold out (boo that Nordstrom Anniversary sale has items quite literally flying off the shelf) but I have linked some similar options that are perfect for fall! I love the pretty flared sleeves and how fitted but comfy the body is – perfect style sweater when you need a break from all the current roomy and flowy trends. I think this look is perfect for a cooler summer morning picking up some baked goodies and coffee and dropping off the kids at school. And it will be great tucked into some jeans for a warm fall evening as well, I recently wore it with some white skinny jeans and the same cognac espadrilles and jean jacket to a Cleveland Indians game and it was the perfect.

For the cool summer day look above I paired it with some Joe’s Jeans cut off shorts (mine are rolled once), lace up espadrilles, Chloe bag and tortoise shades and felt really comfortable in 70ish degree weather. I know I’ll be wearing this combo a lot as the weather cools down in an effort to prolong my summer attire.

If you’re anything like me then stay tuned – I have a number of posts that will help you make the most of your warm weather pieces during the transitional season while staying chic and cool. I got you girl, don’t worry 😉 Shop my outfit below! xo, Jules
