Soft & Cozy in Sezane

Happy What-I-Wore-Wednesday! It’s hard to believe it’s only February with the spring-like weather we have been experiencing this week. The high temps, the rainy days, and the sight of green grass (which I haven’t seen in months) peeking out has me almost fooled into thinking spring has sprung! And while it’s been so nice to pull out lighter jackets and even show off some ankle with cropped jeans and loafers, I know better than to put all my sweaters away just yet. So even though I want (so badly) to show you all the beautiful pieces and combos I’ve been planning for spring, I know I’m better off showing ways to pair sweaters with between-season denim and shoes to get you through the remaining dregs of winter and into the colder, early days of spring.

A recent favorite sweater for just this purpose is a cozy, super soft one by Sezane. If you haven’t heard of Sezane (ok, where ya been hiding?) it’s a beautiful French brand that encompasses everything about Parisian chic and effortless bohemian cool-girl style. I recently had the chance to pop into their gorgeous cafe-apartment-like shop in Nolita in NYC and let me tell you, I wanted every single thing in there. Down to the shop decor that was most definitely not for sale. Just like visiting their store can transport you into a classicly-bohemian-Paris-setting, so can one of their gorgeous pieces of clothing. I ended up with just a single purchase in the form of this ribbon-tie mohair sweater. But honestly, I wanted every sweater and every blouse in sight. Add to that their beautiful leather and suede bags, perfectly understated shoes, dresses and accessories… yea, you get the picture, I had to be dragged out of there.

The coolest part about their sweaters is the versatility. Now, I know I use that term a whole lot on here but I mean it in a different sense here. Obviously it’s a beautiful black sweater that can be worn with jeans, skirts, over dresses and dressed up or down – but that’s not even the coolest part. This sweater can be worn with the ribbon backwards or forwards. Yep, two completely different sweaters in one. And it actually looks perfect either way. This is the case with most of their sweaters (not sure this would work with blouses, ha) and it makes me wish I could buy every sweater they make. I’ve worn it reversed with the ribbon untied in the front over a laced camisole for a more undone look as well as the above way with it tied into a pretty, lush bow in the back.

This sweater (as with many of theirs) is mohair and alpaca making it super cozy and soft. Obviously due to the warmer quality of the material it is best suited to the cooler months of the year but it can easily take you from fall through spring. Pair it with skinny jeans and tall boots under a warm coat and hat and you’re set for winter or throw it on with a light wash pair of mom jeans, some classic loafers and a rain coat and you’re set for spring time.

If there’s one brand I can spread the love about (ok, make that 2, my love for Everlane is still so strong) I hope its Sezane. Do yourself a favor and peruse their website. I know some of the pieces are a pricier investment than a lot of similar choices you’ve seen at common retailers such as Top Shop, Express, or even Nordstrom’s BP/contemporary section… But I can assure you the quality is hands down worth the price point. I’ve worn and hand washed my sweater using The Laundress wool & cashmere shampoo a few times now and it looks just as good as new. (Side note, I highly recommend investing in a proper wool/cashmere wash and bucket to wash your wool, cashmere, and mohair sweaters in). I’ve seen The Laundress products for sale at The Container Store as well as Saks. And I think it makes all the difference in the world when it comes to how you care for your sweaters.

I’ve got my eye on this dreamy sweater, as well as this pretty wrap blouse  (just look at that floral edging, sigh), and I can’t get over how adorable this printed camisole is, and also this perfectly bohemian dress. And then there’s the shoes and the handbags. I would like one of each please and maybe an unlimited bank account to accomplish this! 😉

Here’s to hoping for more weeks of mild temps like this one, and to trudging through the rest of this cold season lookin’ cute! xo, jules
