Old Favorites + New Favorites

Happy Wednesday darlings! The weather is looking up and feeling like spring lately and that puts a huge smile on my face and sunnies permanently perched on my nose. So the next few posts may seem a bit different in nature because with the new season I’ve found myself paring down my wardrobe a bit and focusing on really only adding pieces I love and will wear (and wear and wear) and adding a bit less new. While being a blogger (and girl who likes to shop) is loads of fun, it can take a hit on both my wallet and my mental well being. I feel like the need to buy new pieces and stay on trend sometimes takes hold of me and leaves me feeling very overwhelmed and regretful. Plus I always tend to reach for the same favorites on a regular basis so I find that when I keep adding similar new pieces I am just living in a vicious cycle. So some of these upcoming posts will feature pieces that are tried and true and well loved (mixed with a few edited new ones), but I will do my best to dig them up and link them or provide super similar options.

With that being said, there is nothing I love more than a great pair of white jeans for spring. After months of dark colors and dark wash/black denim I am always itching to pull out light colors and textures and mix and match them. The jeans I’m wearing are AG Jeans from a few months ago but I have seen the button fly making a big comeback recently in various styles and washes with denim darling Levi’s making a super popular pair. Free People have a similar pair that just keeps selling out as well. I love the exposed button fly and raw hem crop combo and sadly this pair was a tad long sans raw edge… so instead of investing in a new pair I sort of DIY’d this one with some crafty measuring and a pair of scissors and voila. If you guys would like a step-by-step mini tutorial let me know!

I paired the white jeans with a favorite thin cream knit from a few seasons ago, a newish navy poncho sweater for a pop of pattern and color, some rich whisky flat booties, a pair of gold sunnies and a gorgeous basket backpack by Mae Woven.

Let’s pause here and back up just a second to discuss the booties. After months and months of lusting I finally pulled the trigger on the infamous Free People Royale flat aka spring bootie extraordinaire. I have been lusting after these open side booties since late last summer when I first spied them on the Free People site but alas they kept selling out in my size. This year, right as the weather began to warm (and then drop again…) I purchased them in multiple sizes and did my due diligence by stomping all around my house to ensure they fit well. And now that they are finally mine I have not been able to take them off. They’re super comfy, go with any outfit and although I originally wanted to try a much lighter color I am so happy I went with my gut and ended up with this rich whisky brown. They match every type of denim and go great with dresses while adding an earthy boho tone to any outfit. The leather is super soft and supple and I did end up with the larger size so I am a little nervous about them becoming even softer and stretching out but I will keep my fingers crossed they don’t do that too much. Size wise I recommend trying on your regular size and a half size up in any color you can get your hands on and then keeping a watchful eye on whatever pair your heart desires in your size. They have been restocked a few times and I imagine they will continue to do so until fall. And I have received more compliments for my shoes recently than I have in quite some time so I can attest to how cute these really are IRL.

Moving on to the next item that needs a few lines of its own: the basket backpack. Ever since becoming a mom I have been the first to admit I love and recommend backpacks to any newbie mom or mama-to-be out there. I mean, they are just so functional and easy to crate around when you’ve got your arms full of baby or toddler. I have been looking for a new beachy bag for the warmer months and while there are so many beautiful woven options out there right now I just didn’t love a single one. And then I happened to see Merrick of Merrick’s Art wearing a basket backpack and I was obsessed (see first photo on right in her post here ) and so I hunted it down. This basket backpack is a french market basket and can be used in so many fun ways. It can go from beach day to farmer’s market to shopping easily and would be a perfect summer bag to tote around all yours and your child’s things. I love it so much. The brand, Mae Woven has the most beautiful instgram and creates gorgeous handmade bags, pillows, blankets and towels right in Salt Lake City. (Check out their Instagram page for instant beachy, boho inspo).

Now obviously a few pieces of this outfit were recent adds to my closet but for the most part I tried to stick to items I already owned and loved. Even though it’s a new season I know I have some old favorites (and not so old favorites) that can be mixed and matched into new outfits.

Hope you are springing along this second week of May. xo, Jules
