Layering up is the key to spring

Happy WIWW (What-I-wore-Wednesday) loves! Most of us have been lucky enough to get some much needed spring sunshine and warm temps these last few weeks, allowing for trees and flowers to pop up and bloom. Along with all the blossoms warmer weather the cozy layers start peeling off and getting tucked away. In previous years that is exactly what I had done, at the first sign of spring I would find myself gleefully pulling out light airy fabrics and tucking away all my winter cozies, only to find myself frantically digging sweaters and cardigans back out at the unpredictable temperature drops spring always brings us. So this year I told myself I would wait, be a little more patient with the weather and learn to embrace layering. Now, before you guys tell me this outfit is way too cozy for the hot spikes we are experiencing let me remind you that mornings and evenings are still chilly and on occasion winter still likes to blow a cold windy day our way as we roll towards summer. So this layered up outfit is actually a perfect solution.

Now, as I mentioned in my last post, with this new season I’ve been trying to love on my existing wardrobe a bit more and make new additions to it a bit less. As with last time, due to this, some of the pieces I link won’t be the exact ones I’m wearing but I’ll do my best.

This outfit was a fun little take on a sweater duo. I’m wearing a lighter knit oatmeal cardigan (serious steal alert) from Old Navy that I picked up in a pinch when shopping for some basics for my toddler. I seriously will be wearing this duster cardigan to shreds. I find myself pulling it out on a weekly basis and love the neutral color and lighter material of it. I do wish it was a bit better quality but now that I know this is a necessary piece in my wardrobe I’m keeping my eyes peeled for a better quality upgrade for fall. I threw it overtop a cropped sweater tank in a pretty muted blush. I can’t seem to get enough cropped tops in my life lately and I blame it on the fact that crop tops have come a long way from their sexier (ok, a bit sluttier), clubbier cousins from years past. Now they seem to hit at just the right spot, that top button of your high rise jeans, and their silhouettes are a bit more fashion forward than before.

I’ve been pairing lots of these cropped pieces with my new favorite jeans the 721 high rise skinny Levi. I know I said I’d been doing my best to tamper down my need to buy new items on a regular basis but these jeans were a must. I wear black skinny jeans about 3/4 of the year and I find that nothing bothers me more than a pair that continually slides down or has a less-than-high-rise. I mean, all that tugging and yanking- ugh! So after many pairs of failed black jeans, I finally caved and tried the Levi’s and boy oh boy, I am on that Levi-bandwagon now with no signs of getting off. These have an amazing fit in the tusch and thigh, are slim throughout (no droopy knees) with a tapered ankle. At 5’4″ I did not need to hem the 28L length and they run oh-so-true to size (I’m wearing a 25). And best part? No sliding down. Nada. They stay right where they are supposed to be all damn day. It’s pretty amazing.

To finish off my chilly spring look I threw on some pretty gold statement hoops, black loafers, bucket bag and wool hat. And then I looped my vintagey gold sunglasses chain around my Ray Bans and was out the door for the day. This way I was able to stay comfortable in the chillier morning while removing my cardigan and hat to cool down once the day warmed up.

Hope your week is warm, but in case it’s not try adding an extra layer or two to your outfit and removing as the day progresses. Ya never know, you may find some extra uses for those cozy hats and cardigans after all. Xo, Jules
